Tesla Reiterates Call to Action on Oklahoma Bill Banning Direct Car Sales

After an Oklahoma bill stopping Tesla and other automakers from selling direct vehicles in the state passed the first round of legislation, Tesla is once again asking its fans to reach out to local representatives.

Tesla has reiterated a previous call for fans to make their voices heard on Oklahoma House Bill 3994, according to the company’s website (via @Sawyer Merritt) and in email to customers.

The HB 3994 passed the initial committee vote, and will now be voted on by the state’s full House of Representatives this week.

On the web page detailing the call to action, Tesla wrote, “If passed, this bill could force Tesla to close its existing locations in Oklahoma AND prevent Tesla from shipping cars to anyone in the state, which would force locals to travel out-of-state to service their cars or pick up their new Tesla vehicles.”

The news comes after a report earlier this month alleged that Tesla partner Panasonic may be looking at building a factory in Oklahoma or Kansas.

The police department in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma also added a Tesla Model Y to its fleet, which would theoretically need to be driven out of state to be serviced if the bill passed.

It would also force the department to go outside of Oklahoma to make any new Tesla purchases.
