Tesla Model Y Celebrates 3rd Birthday, Watch Elon Musk Unveil the Car [VIDEO]
Tesla unveiled the Model Y, on March 14, 2019, touting it as the “safest mid-size SUV in the world”. Today, the all-electric crossover celebrates its third birthday.

At launch, Tesla announced three trims for the Model Y: Long Range RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD, which came out in the fall of 2020 and started at $47,000 USD, and the short-lived Standard Range RWD that debuted in the spring of 2021.
Today, the Model Y is available in two trims — the Model Y Long Range for $61,990 USD before incentives, and the Model Y Performance for $64,990 USD before incentives, both featuring a Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive configuration.

Tesla’s Model Y topped global electric vehicle (EV) sales for January 2022. During the company’s annual meeting of stockholders in October 2021, Musk said the Model Y “should become the best-selling vehicle of any kind,” globally, soon.
Tesla is gearing up to start shipping Model Ys to customers out of its new factories in Austin, Texas, and Berlin-Brandenburg. Gigafactory Berlin has a Model Y delivery event scheduled for March 22, and Gigafactory Texas is just one EPA approval away from kicking off deliveries.
There’s even talk of a new Model Y Standard Range AWD, reportedly launching soon in North America.
