Footage from Tesla’s American Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, captured on Thursday, March 10, and shared by Jeff Roberts shows hundreds of Model Y units manufactured at the facility parked in the lots outside as more roll off the production line.
Thursday marked day 596 of construction at Giga Texas. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said late last month that Tesla is just one approval away from starting Model Y deliveries out of Giga Texas, but the agency appears to be dragging its feet on issuing that approval.
Well over 400 Model Ys can currently be seen parked outside Giga Texas, with even more making their way to the lots outside as the factory churns them out. Several Model Y units were also spotted leaving Giga Texas on a delivery truck last month.
Roberts’ drone footage also showcases more walls going up in the northern section of the site, some grading and excavation work going on to the east, and construction teams laying down more asphalt and concrete.
Tesla is planning a grand opening party for Giga Texas, similar to the one the automaker had for Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany. The event is scheduled for April 7.
