Tesla ‘Seat Abuse’ Will Trigger Warning, Lock You Out for 5 Minutes

After Tesla updates were discovered for an upcoming “seat abuse” warning feature sparked interest across the internet, the hacker that discovered them has shared specifics about the metrics for the feature.
Due to popular demand, @greentheonly found and shared metrics on Monday for Tesla’s upcoming seat abuse controls, including how they’ll be activated on the Model 3 and Model Y
According to the post, seat warnings will be triggered if used 90 seconds within a five-minute period, while 120 seconds of use in a five-minute period disables the seat motor for five minutes. This applies to track movements forwards and backwards of your seats.
Due to all the interest in the seat abuse metrics, I dug them up:
90 seconds of use in 5 minutes time is the trigger for a warning.
120 seconds of use in 5 minutes disables the motor for 5 minutes.Alternatively if you just do a lot of short bursts the buffer just overflows

In addition, green says a series of short bursts will overflow the system’s buffer, also triggering a warning and subsequent disabling for five minutes to avoid untracked abuse. Green added that it isn’t yet clear what size the buffer is.
It’s unclear if these seat abuse metrics and limitations will be just for the Model 3 and Model Y, or applied to all vehicles. We’ve reached out to green for further clarification.
Maybe this is a way for Tesla to stop the wear and tear on seat motors from kids and adults with trigger-happy fingers? Clearly, Tesla is seeing some sort of data from its owners that it is considering this.
Green told Tesla North the seat abuse metrics are only found in factory firmware. He said once it goes to a wider release in a new version we’ll find out where these seat metrics will apply.
The developer added, “could be the new seats from Brose require it, or could be it was a coincidence the two got bundled up,” referring to the new premium seat supplier for Tesla’s Model 3 and Y in Giga Shanghai.
Last month, a video showed that Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory can pump out Model Y units every 35 seconds.
The automaker also shared video footage of safety features in a tour of Gigafactory Shanghai last month.
Tesla China also launched a karaoke mic for its Shanghai-built vehicles last month, as a part of the company’s 2022.2.1 software update for the Lunar New Year.
