Tesla Adds Premium Seat Supplier for Model 3/Y, ‘Seat Abuse’ Warnings Coming

Tesla has added a new seat supplier for its Model 3 and Y vehicles, with premium seats coming from Germany-based Brose, according to developer @greentheonly. These new premium seats are in addition to the in-house Tesla seats and also Shanghai-based Yanfeng seats the automaker was using for made-in-China vehicles.

According to @greentheonly, “this is a new premium seat only, so base seats still remain Tesla-only.” It’s unclear what kind of premium seats these will be, but earlier this month, Tesla’s Model 3/Y manual stated ‘cooling seats’ for both driver and passenger. For those upgrading to Tesla’s premium interior, it’s possible the extra price paid may include these ‘premium’ seats.

Green also points out that Tesla is introducing “seat abuse” metrics for the premium seats, including messages that warn the driver when the seat track motor is being overused.

When being overused, the system will display messages such as “Excessive use of seat track motor detected,” “Seat track motor unavailable due to excessive use,” and “Wait 5 minutes to adjust seat track position again.”

In other words, don’t abuse the seats for fun or you’ll be locked out like a bad child.

Tesla also began unveiling its 2022.2.1 software update for users in China to ring in the Lunar New Year.

The update includes several new features, including the ability to change your car’s color, support for TeslaMic/KTV karaoke, and added support for Netease Cloud music.

Earlier this week, Tesla’s Model 3 and Y were awarded the highest possible score in China’s health index, following high demand and record sales throughout 2021.

Tesla also shared a Lunar New Year Gift Basket for 2022 this month, as well as an affordable gift package that lets you pre-pay for unlimited Supercharging during the holiday.
