McDonald’s Responds to Elon Musk’s Dogecoin Payments Request

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter in one of the more strange virtual encounters we’ve seen on Tuesday, encouraging burger mega-chain McDonald’s to start accepting Dogecoin.

In the tweet, Elon Musk said, “I will eat a happy meal on tv if McDonald’s accepts Dogecoin.”

@McDonald’s fired back a quick response, saying it would only begin accepting Dogecoin “if Tesla accepts Grimacecoin,” a fake cryptocurrency referencing the McDonald’s character Grimace.

McDonald’s rival @Burger King also jumped in on the action prior, replying to the thread saying “only a king knows what da coin do.”

Tesla began accepting Dogecoin for certain accessories in its online shop earlier this month.

Last year, Tesla began accepting Bitcoin for its cars for a brief period of time, before ceasing to accept the cryptocurrency.

Musk has also not been shy about his feelings about cryptocurrency, with the Tesla CEO last year changing his Twitter bio to say he was the “Technoking of Tesla” and “Imperator of Mars” for a short time.

SpaceX also plans to launch the DOGE-1 Mission to the moon this year, a mission completely funded by Dogecoin set to mark the first crypto-funded space mission.
