Tesla Model 3: Switzerland’s Top-Selling Car in 2021, Elon Musk Praises Achievement
After news that Tesla became the top-selling auto brand overall in Norway in 2021, the U.S. automaker’s flagship electric sedan also landed the top spot in a fellow European country.
The Tesla Model 3 was Switzerland’s top-selling vehicle in 2021, even selling better than internal combustion vehicles (ICEs) for the first time in the country, according to data shared by IVZ ASTRA (via Reddit).
In response to the news, Tesla CEO @Elon Musk said “Yay Switzerland!!” in a tweet on Monday.

Just behind the Tesla Model 3 electric vehicle (EV), which sold 5,072 units in Switzerland throughout 2021, was the Skoda Octavia (4,969 units) landing the second best-selling vehicle, and the Audi Q3 (3,959 units) as the third best-selling vehicle.
The only other notable EV on the list was the Volvo XC40, which sold 3,439 units, in addition to the aforementioned Skoda Octavia plugin hybrid.
Tesla has also yet to complete its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, though the automaker did submit documents for final approval late last month.
Currently, European countries receive their Tesla vehicles from the company’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, China, though that will change once the Berlin Gigafactory becomes fully operational.
Recently Swiss Tesla owners put on a group Light Show consisting of 37 vehicles, which appear to be the largest gathering so far of cars performing the new feature from the company’s holiday update.
