The retail chain already hosts one 22-stall Supercharger at its Gensingen store and says it could install Superchargers at all 51 German locations within the next three years.
“In addition to the charging park at our store in Gensingen with 22 Tesla superchargers, all of our 51 Globus stores can be equipped with superchargers within the next three years,” said Nils Behrens, a spokesperson for Globus (translated from German).
Each Globus hypermarket will get 12 Supercharger stalls as standard to start, with the option for future expansion.
“By upgrading the charging infrastructure beyond our own charging stations, we want to make our contribution to this structural change,” added Behrens.
Germany is a burgeoning market for Tesla, and the expansion of what is essentially one of the company’s biggest competitive advantages over the rest of the industry is bound to help Tesla gain more ground in the region.
Germany became Tesla’s largest European market earlier in the year and is set to host an even more heated battle for market share between Tesla and resident automaker Volkswagen once the American EV maker’s Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory goes online.
