First Drive: Tesla FSD 10.8 Beta and Unprotected Left Turns [VIDEOS]
In a YouTube video published on Friday, Tesla owner and Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta tester Chuck Cook documented his first drive around Memorial Park with FSD beta 10.8.
FSD beta 10.8 started rolling out on Thursday with software update 2021.44.25.6, also bringing along Tesla’s 2021 holiday update and all of its contents for beta testers.
In the video, Chuck showcases FSD beta 10.8’s performance, also demonstrating and walking us through some of the new Tesla software V11.0 features, like the fullscreen view of the FSD Visualization and the blind spot camera feature for making turns.
Chuck also used Waypoints, which were added in a previous update but can now be edited after navigation is started, and experienced some “unexpected behavior” with them.
Be careful out there. Some unexpected behavior with waypoints this morning. #FSDBeta v10.8 got a bit confused when the waypoints didn't connect in the planner. Take a look. @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/IKZV7Yw89e

In a follow-up video, Chuck put FSD beta 10.8 through his “unprotected left turns” test to see how the latest version handles making a left turn across a busy intersection with no stoplights as compared to its predecessors.
Unfortunately, the FSD beta tester actually found version 10.8 performing even worse than its predecessor, version 10.6, in this specific test.
Out of five attempts, FSD beta 10.8 only managed to successfully (and safely) cross the intersection and make the left turn once. Chuck had to intervene every other time because FSD had either crept too far into the road without actually deciding on crossing it, or took too long to make a decision and there was another vehicle waiting behind him.
The test is pretty representative of an everyday use-case for FSD, and Chuck’s real-time drone footage of each test simply makes the video an even more compelling watch.
