In September, Tesla updated its Autopilot system to slow down automatically for emergency vehicles at night, and a new discovery shows that the company is still working out ways to make its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) safer around emergency responders.

Tesla has once again updated its emergency light display, as pointed out on Monday by @greentheonly. The current update, which was discovered by the hacker within Tesla’s internal code, shows a flashing red and blue emergency light bar, alternating between colors, with a dedicated asset showing similar designs for motorcycles.

The news comes following Tesla’s initial response to an investigation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) over a series of accidents with emergency responders in Autopilot-engaged Tesla vehicles.

In a follow-up to the initial probe, the NHTSA has asked Tesla another series of questions focusing more on Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta, to which Tesla will have until November 1 to respond.

The NHTSA also said Tesla should have filed a recall notice on a software update with several problems, which Tesla instead reverted software on upon hearing of the flaws from drivers.

Tesla’s new emergency responder lights animation is best viewed in a video format, though it’ll likely soon roll out to drivers too, according to green.
