Maserati Electric Cars Will Make Better EV Sounds, Says CEO
As the world moves to electric vehicles (EVs) for its day-to-day transportation needs, luxury vehicle companies are looking to get a leg up in any way they can, with one company recently hinting that its electric cars may offer more convincing sound than some other models.
Maserati hopes to bolster EV sounds in its upcoming cars, in order to match the sounds of a classic Maserati, according to an interview The Drive conducted with Maserati CEO in North and South America, William Peffer.
In the interview, Peffer alluded to the need for a robust sound to keep up with the vehicle’s reputation, though he didn’t elaborate on if new Maserati EVs would include a specific, signature sound of any kind.

When asked about the sound of Maserati’s vehicles for the company’s upcoming EVs, Peffer said, “Stay tuned on that. We have a solution.” Peffer later continued, saying, “We’ve watched other manufacturers come out with EVs and that’s the one area that, for us, a brand where [the sound] is so important, you have to be able to hold onto that DNA.”
Maserati is a Stellantis-owned brand, with some of its adjacent non-luxury brands like Dodge and Jeep set to launch EVs of their own in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
EVs currently are relatively silent aside from government-regulated noisemakers when vehicles are in reverse, to alert people in the surrounding vicinity. Tesla has a ‘Boombox’ feature that allows its vehicles to play custom sounds.
A Maserati Executive also announced last year that fully electric vehicles (EVs) would arrive from the company in 2025, including the company’s high-profile Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models.
