Tesla Trip Planner Gets Improved Accuracy in Software Update
According to a recent tweet from Tesla owner @greentheonly, the built-in Trip Planner for Tesla’s electric vehicles (EVs) has become significantly more accurate in late 2021.4.XX software updates — update 2021.4.22, for example.
Tesla hacker ‘green’ shares both the good news and bad news when it comes to their discoveries from the company’s software, and at times is one of the harshest critics of the automaker. For ‘green’ to be impressed by the change, then there definitely has been some improvements.
Great job, @Tesla, the reworked trip planner (in since late 2021.4.xx) is really spot-on for predicting arrival SoC for me while still sitting at a charger, more accurate than ABRP even!
At first I thought it was just luck, but it really is consistently almost perfect.

Tesla’s Trip Planner is designed to help users manage their road trips. Trip Planner plans out Supercharger destinations along the way, makes detailed route calculations based on how you drive and weather conditions, and even approximates the remaining State of Charge (SoC — remaining battery percentage) you’ll have when you get to your destination.
Tesla has reworked and tweaked Trip Planner in recent updates, and @greentheonly notes that the feature has become much more accurate at predicting arrival State of Charge as of late. In fact, Trip Planner now appears to be even more accurate than A Better Route Planner — a popular third-party trip planning alternative.
Twitter user @greeko added that they too have noticed an increase in accuracy, and that Trip Planner is proving to be amazingly accurate for longer trips as well.
I noticed this too. Amazingly accurate even for long trips

Tesla is continuously working on improving and fine-tuning its EV software. Earlier this month, leaks revealed that Tesla also has a major redesign for its companion mobile app in the works.
