Tesla Dominates in 1,000 Mile Race with 11 Electric Vehicles [VIDEO]
Tesla is often considered the best brand when it comes to zero-emission vehicles, based on the company’s electric vehicle hardware and software, but how does that hold up against other brands?
Car and Driver unveiled results on Wednesday from a race between 11 different electric vehicles (EVs) on a 1,000-mile race across Middle America. In addition to the write-up on the publication’s site, they released a video on Thursday documenting the impressively coordinated experience.
The EVs included a Tesla Model 3 Performance, a Tesla Model Y Performance, a Tesla Model S Long Range Plus, an Audi e-tron, a Kia Niro, a Ford Mustang Mach-E, a Nissan Leaf, a Polestar 2, a Porsche Taycan 4S, a Volvo XC40 Recharge, and a Volkswagen ID.4.
The EVs began in Ann Arbor, Michigan and were allowed to charge wherever they want, so long as they passed through waypoints in Cincinnati and Athens, Ohio, Morgantown, West Virginia, and Erie, Pennsylvania, before making their way back to Ann Arbor.
The full video depicting the race can be found below, with results beneath that.
Overall, the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus spent the least time driving, at just 16 hours and 14 minutes, while the Tesla Model Y Performance and Tesla Model 3 Performance followed closely behind with times of 17 hours, 50 minutes and 17 hours, 55 minutes, respectively.
Next were the Ford Mustang Mach-E at 20 hours and 31 minutes, and the Porsche Taycan 4S at exactly 21 hours.
This was a very interesting video and it goes to show how far ahead Tesla is compared to other EV automakers, thanks to the former’s Supercharger network. The other electric vehicles had a tough time charging at third party charging stations, plus charging times were slower than advertised on some cars, such as the Taycan.
