iOS 14.2.1 Fixes Tesla App Not Working on iPhone 12

Ever since the iPhone 12 lineup was launched, many Tesla owners with these specific devices have been unable to use the Tesla app over AT&T’s cellular data.

According to reports on the TMC Forums, iOS 14.2.1 (released Nov. 19) rids the iPhone 12 of this particular problem, restoring complete functionality to the Tesla app.

The Tesla app is a companion mobile app for owners of Tesla cars (and energy products) that displays the status of your device, lets you check in on it as it charges, open/close your garage doors, warm your car up before you set out for your commute if it’s too cold out, and much more.

This godsend of an app simply wouldn’t connect to Tesla servers over cellular data (5G or 4G!) on the iPhone 12, rendering it completely useless. This was quite the inconvenience, as cellular data is usually all that’s available when you’re out and about.

While there was a lot of speculation as to the cause of this problem, it seems to have been an iOS issue all along — one that iOS 14.2.1 successfully fixes.

Thanks to the considerate patrons of the TMC Forums, we can also confirm that the issue stands resolved on all members of the iPhone 12 family — the Pro, Pro Max, and mini included.

If you haven’t updated your iPhone 12 to iOS 14.2.1 yet, go to Settings > General > Software Update on your device, and get to it!
