Tesla fans have been known for doing some impressive, albeit wacky, things with their skillsets – from building cell battery replicas, to paper maché Superchargers, we may have thought we’d seen it all. And yet, a new owner has shared that you can use the Tesla UI on computers other than the one inside your Tesla.

In a new video uploaded by YouTube channel DoitalJosh, host Josh shows how he booted his Intel Atom up using the Tesla 3 UI (via Reddit).

The build uses the eMMC of the Tesla owner’s Model 3 MCU board, part of the hardware in the electric vehicle’s (EV’s) supercomputer. While the Autopilot and map functionalities do not work on the Intel boot-up, likely due to a lack of access to its data network, everything else appears to work as normal.

We think it’s safe to say Autopilot has been disabled here.

As the world transitions into an age of sustainable transportation, autonomous driving, and a number of other exciting, futuristic technologies, we’ll continue to see engineers and others with real-world know-how take these systems apart and figure out what they do exactly. Tesla’s computers are at the forefront of these technologies, and we’ll likely continue to see them improve over the next several years.
