Tesla Customizable Folding Mirror Setting May Be Coming, Hints Elon Musk
Many Tesla owners currently using the company’s Full Self-Driving beta have already seen the wonders of the car’s auto-folding mirrors in tight spaces, but more iterations of the feature may still be coming.
On Sunday, Elon Musk responded to a commenter on Twitter requesting a Tesla setting which does not auto-fold mirrors if the air is below a certain temperature outside (via Reddit). In response to the comment, Musk wrote, “Ok,” seeming to imply that the company would do it or was, perhaps, already doing it.

Others on Twitter have requested similar customizability to Tesla’s mirror folding abilities, but this is the first time that Musk has responded to specific questions about auto-folding mirrors before. Ideas shared included a commonly-echoed design idea for a “car wash mode,” in which the vehicle sets to neutral, folds in the mirrors, rolls up all the windows, and raises up the steering wheel for drivers to relax. While no word yet exists on such a mode, consumers may well get one if they continue suggesting it to Tesla.
We have seen evidence of automatic folding mirrors during Full Self-Driving beta videos, while a Tesla is driving, but this setting being requested is unique for those living in colder climates.
Recently, Tesla’s Model Y refresh also gained automatic dimming mirrors.
As new features like auto-dimming and auto-folding mirrors continue to arrive to the Tesla ecosystem, it will be exciting to see the world embrace new technologies – and especially the larger technology of electric vehicles in general.
