Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta: Unprotected Left Turn and Roundabout Test [VIDEO]
In a new video posted Monday, YouTube channel AIDRIVR shows a Tesla Model S using Full Self-Driving to navigate through a number of roundabouts, as well as a few unprotected left turns. The Full Self-Driving has a few small hiccups, but never puts the driver or other drivers in danger, which is an impressive feat in and of itself.
In the video, the Model S generally succeeds through all the roundabouts, with the exception of an illegally-parked car confusing it and causing it to brake momentarily. Still, considering the only issues the Full Self-Driving really had in the video were, in fact, keeping the driver more safe rather than the less-than-ideal alternative.
The Full Self-Driving add-on offers Tesla drivers a number of exciting features like auto summon, stop sign and traffic light control, autopark, lane change, and navigation on highways, among others yet.
Tesla plans to fully release its Full Self-Driving to the public by the new year. It currently costs $10,000 in the US for the Autopilot add-on, though a subscription-based pricing model will debut in 2021, said Elon Musk recently. That $10,000 includes a recent $2,000 USD price increase. Ouch.
As Tesla’s Full Self-Driving becomes more and more common, eventually releasing to a wider audience, it will be exciting to see the technology become standard as the AI’s knowledge base grows too.
Next up for FSD beta? Canada and Norway, said Elon Musk yesterday.
