Tesla 2020.40.7 Software Update Rolling Out: What’s New [Update]

Tesla’s 2020.40.7 software update has started rolling out to the fleet, as noted by @TeslaFi, version a705cb3bb8.

So far, three Model Y owners are downloading the Tesla 2020.40.7 software update, according to the TeslaFi database.

According to @Teslascope, 2020.40.7 is also rolling out to select owners in Canada.

Earlier today, Tesla released its Model 3 refresh, while also extended range for the Model S, Model X and Model Y.

The software update could be bringing a range increase for existing owners, to match today’s range increases. The Model 3 range increase is said to be due to the addition of a heat pump, matching the Model Y.

Update: Release notes below as per @kkvr2823, showing updated range. Under the heading ‘Improved Efficiency’, Tesla explains, “your car’s range has increased with new software that improves the efficiency of the motors and the climate control system.”

“Note: These changes do no impact acceleration or overall climate control performance,” notes Tesla.

Update: Looks like this 2020.40.7 software update adds an extra 10 miles (16 km) to the Model Y. Nice.

No word on what’s new yet, but stay tuned as we’ll update this post accordingly.
