The world-renowned electric vehicle maker continues to upgrade its Autopilot and self-driving features. As a leader in both electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles, Tesla aims to cater to its drivers with a variety of updates that improve the self-driving experience. In a new update, Tesla plans to release speed limit recognition around the world.
As seen with some of its past feature releases, Tesla doesn’t always allow access in all countries right away. The update model tends to release features in one region. Users then use and test features so Tesla can make appropriate changes before more global releases. The latest feature, speed limit recognition, shows 3D rendered signs for drivers.
A recent tweet from @greentheonly showcases some previews of the latest feature. In the update, drivers from around the world can also expect enhanced roundabout support. The Twitter thread also addresses some of the Autopilot core code rewrites that CEO and chief product architect Elon Musk mentioned in the past.

As Twitter user @strangecosmos asks, “Do you know anything about the fundamental Autopilot rewrite that Elon’s mentioned a few times? I’m assuming this rewrite includes the HydraNets that Karpathy has discussed?” @greentheonly sheds some light on coding changes stating, “the next generation is plaidnet it seems…” and “plaidnet traces appeared in 2020.8…”
