Tesla Opens Berlin Engineering Center, Uniting 30 Labs on One Campus

Tesla has opened its Berlin Tesla Engineering Center, a new campus in the city’s Köpenick district about 30 minutes from Giga Berlin.
The site pulls four engineering sites and 30 labs onto one campus. Tesla Europe announced the opening on Wednesday, saying it went from permit to operational in under a year.
According to the post, the campus combines materials, powertrain, vehicle engineering and validation work under one roof. Tesla says that setup creates a short feedback loop between development and the production ramp.
Tesla calls it its third hub of this kind, after Fremont and Shanghai. Photos shared with the announcement show staff gathered for an opening event under a “BTEC” sign, with a Tesla Semi parked inside the hall.
Giga Berlin, in Grünheide just outside the German capital, is Tesla’s only European vehicle factory and builds the Model Y. The plant was recently building 7,000 Model Y in a week, and the opening lands the same day as Tesla’s October registrations in Germany.
Plenty is still unknown. Tesla didn’t say how many engineers work at the new center, what it cost, or which programs it will support first. It also didn’t say whether the four sites it replaced have closed.
Do you think a dedicated Berlin engineering hub will speed up new models for European buyers?
