Tesla Powerwall 3 Adds Heat Pump Boost in Europe, Skips Canada

Tesla Energy launched Heat Pump Optimization for Powerwall 3 and Powerwall 3P in Europe last week, letting the battery tell a compatible heat pump when to boost and store surplus power as hot water.
Canada and the United States are not part of the rollout, echoing the gap when Tesla opened Powershare outlets in the US and Mexico while leaving Canada out. Tesla has not said whether or when Heat Pump Optimization will reach either market.
In an October 29 post, Tesla Energy said a heat pump is one of the biggest electrical loads in a home, and that Heat Pump Optimization lets Powerwall boost heating when there is surplus solar or when electricity is inexpensive. The company said the feature is available with Powerwall 3 and Powerwall 3P in Europe.
Install docs for Powerwall 3 with Backup Gateway 2 spell out the wiring. The system uses SG-Ready, a German Heat Pump Association label for pumps that take an external control signal. An installer runs a two-conductor low-voltage dry-contact relay from Powerwall or the Backup Gateway to the heat pump’s SG2 terminal, then sets SG2 Contact in the Tesla One app during commissioning.
Boosted mode closes the relay so the heat pump raises target temperatures in a buffer tank or hot water storage. In Self-Powered mode, Powerwall sends that boost only when excess solar is available. In Savings mode, it also boosts when the electricity price is low, and returns to normal when rates sit in the mid or high range.
Owners who already use the same dry-contact circuit for load shedding cannot run both features at once. Enabling heat pump optimization in the Tesla app overrides any existing load-shedding setup on that relay.
Home backup is a separate track. Tesla Energy already extended Powerwall 3 backup to new Model 3 and Model Y cars, and Powerwall 2 sites can add a Powerwall 3 Expansion. Shoppers browsing the car side of the ecosystem can still use our Tesla referral.
Will Tesla bring Heat Pump Optimization to Canada and the US next, or keep the SG-Ready boost locked to Europe?
