Grok Bot has opened a referral program that hands invited friends a 2-week free Premium trial, then rewards the person who shared the link with a free usage reset once that friend becomes a paid subscriber on The X Subscription.
Official docs on docs.x.ai spell out the loop. Eligible users copy a referral link, a friend signs up as new to Grok, enters a credit card, and starts the trial. The friend is prompted to download the Grok Bot app right away. When that friend later pays, the referrer’s reward shows as pending and the usage reset lands on the account 7 days after payment clears. Each reset stays valid for 6 months.
Confirmation also came from @grok in a reply on October 28, saying eligible US subscribers can tap the gift icon in the app, share their link, and earn a usage reset after the friend pays. Docs put the same gift icon in the top right of mobile chats, in the bottom left on desktop next to Connect apps, and on the web at the Grok referrals dashboard.
Referrers must already be on a paid Premium, Super, or Ultra plan on The X Subscription, be based in the United States, and be at least 7 days past checkout. Plus and Team plans cannot refer yet, and legacy Cursor or SuperGrok plans are also shut out until the user switches. Friends can join from any country except China, must be new to Grok, and have to enter a card. That means Canadians can accept a referral and start the trial, but they cannot send one of their own while the referrer seat stays US-only.
In-app purchases through Apple or Google do not count. If a friend’s payment is refunded or disputed, the pending reward is removed, and the rewards have no cash value. xAI says it may change, pause, or end the program at any time.
Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, also runs a referral program. Sharing a Muse referral code earns 1 billion extra tokens per successful invite, up to a maximum of 30 billion. Grok Bot’s usage resets are a different but also valuable reward, restoring agent capacity rather than granting tokens. Too bad the two programs don’t stack, since Muse and Grok Bot are separate products.
The referral push lands after a busy stretch for the agent. Elon Musk recently spotlighted Pages, Vault, and video upgrades, after earlier weeks that added phone calls to businesses and calendar, Reminders, and Contacts access on the phone.
How quickly the gift icon reaches every eligible US account is still an open question, since @grok also called the rollout gradual.
