Tesla FSD Hits 6 Million Miles Per Crash, Leaving US Drivers Behind

Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) Vehicle Safety Report now puts Full Self-Driving (Supervised) at 6,006,200 miles per major collision in North America, clearing the 6 million mile mark and landing at about 9 times the U.S. average of 660,164 miles. The rolling twelve-month update builds on the safety dashboard Tesla opened last year and also beats the company’s own manual-driving baselines.
A major collision in Tesla’s report means an airbag or other non-reversible restraint deployed. Teslas driven manually with active safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking averaged 2,031,221 miles between those events, and older Teslas without active safety averaged 845,915. The same chart shows FSD (Supervised) at about 1.8 million miles per minor collision, still ahead of manual driving and the U.S. estimate.
Over the measured window, Tesla logged 9,483,790,215 miles with FSD (Supervised) engaged and counted 1,579 major collisions under its rules. The company treats a crash as FSD-related if the system was active at any point in the five seconds before impact, even if the driver had already taken over. That approach is meant to capture late disengagements, not to assign fault.
Cumulative FSD (Supervised) driving on the same page has passed 16.7 billion miles since 2020, a jump from last November, when the fleet sat near 6.4 billion miles and the major-collision rate sat near 5.1 million miles. Prior quarterly updates had already climbed through the mid-5-million range before this cut crossed 6 million.
Adoption is keeping the dataset growing. Tesla said more than 75% of new North American deliveries took FSD in the third quarter, a figure that landed with its Q3 2026 results, and Turo will start offering verified FSD (Supervised) rentals in the U.S. on October 28. The supervised product still needs an attentive driver ready to take over, even as Tesla separately tracks unsupervised Robotaxi miles in its Robotaxi Safety Report.
Would a 9x gap versus the U.S. average change how often you leave FSD (Supervised) engaged on your daily drive?
