Elon Musk Says Beach Access Is Coming for 2 Florida Robotaxi Zones

Elon Musk says beach access is coming for Tesla’s Miami and Tampa Robotaxi zones, answering Florida Governor Ron DeSantis with a short “Coming soon” reply on X at 7:35 AM PT on Tuesday, October 27. The exchange lands a day after Tesla switched on a much bigger Houston Robotaxi map, another sign the company is still pushing service areas outward city by city.
DeSantis had written overnight that the Tampa and Miami geofences “need to” include the beaches, quoting a post that compared Robotaxi service areas across Tesla’s live cities. He did not name a timeline or which stretches of coastline he wants inside the zones.
Musk’s two-word answer does not spell out when riders will be able to hail a driverless car to South Beach, Clearwater Beach or anywhere else along the water. Tesla has not posted an updated Florida map or said whether the next expansion will cover oceanfront corridors first.
Florida already has three unsupervised Robotaxi cities. Tesla opened Miami in early July, then added Orlando and Tampa later that month, putting driverless Model Y rides on the road without a safety monitor in those markets. Beach corridors have stayed outside the Miami and Tampa footprints so far, which is the gap DeSantis flagged.
That ask fits a pattern for the governor. In May, DeSantis called Tesla’s Full Self-Driving “top-notch” as Cybercab testing showed up on Florida streets, and he has kept public attention on how fast unsupervised rides can spread in the state.
Would a beach stop change whether you book a Robotaxi in Miami or Tampa, or do you still need the zone to reach where you live first?
