Elon Musk Says Starship-Shaped Houston Robotaxi Map Is a Coincidence

Tesla Robotaxi has switched on a bigger service area in Houston, and the new map looks a lot like a Starship rocket, a nod the company made obvious with a “Houston, we have liftoff” post on X at 6:38 AM PT on Monday. It comes days after Tesla said Robotaxi will run until 2 AM soon, with 24/7 rides by year end.

Elon Musk quote-posted the map about seven minutes later with a laughing emoji, writing “I swear it’s just a coincidence,” a playful wink from the man who runs both Tesla and SpaceX.

On the map, the old geofence is a small patch in northwest Houston near Cypress. The new zone keeps that area as the nose and stretches southeast through downtown toward Bellaire and the edge of Pasadena. Tesla didn’t give a square-mile figure for the new area or say whether operating hours changed.

Houston is one of three Texas cities in Tesla’s first Robotaxi Safety Report, which counted 225,964 driverless miles there between January 22 and October 18, well behind Austin at 2,118,015 and Dallas at 608,130. Pulling downtown into the zone should help Houston start closing that gap.

Austin got its own expansion last week, when Tesla added Circuit of the Americas before F1 weekend.

Have you taken a Robotaxi ride in Houston yet, and does the new map finally reach where you need to go?
