Governor Ron DeSantis Admits Tesla FSD is “Top-Notch” as Cybercab Hits Florida
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is publicly applauding Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, even as he maintains a firm stance against government-enforced electric vehicle mandates.
In a series of posts on X, DeSantis shared his admiration for the Texas-based automaker’s innovation. The Governor noted that while he has always preferred traditional engines and rejects the idea that EVs are a global cure-all, he considers Tesla products to be “top-notch.”
DeSantis highlighted the safety record of Tesla FSD Supervised, citing data that shows a major collision occurs only once every 5.3 million miles, compared to the United States average of 660,000 miles. He mentioned that he has friends who “never touch the wheel anymore” because of the system’s capabilities.
The Governor’s comments come as the new Tesla Cybercab was spotted navigating the streets of Miami. Production for the autonomous robotaxi reportedly began in April 2026, with plans to launch dedicated ride-hailing services in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa later this year.
Despite the praise for the technology, DeSantis remains a vocal critic of subsidies and mandates. Responding to users on X suggesting Florida should adopt European-style EV requirements, the Governor stated that Tesla’s success is a result of market demand rather than government pressure.
“Which is exactly how the market should work,” DeSantis remarked, supporting the idea that consumers should choose vehicles based on performance, safety, and cost of ownership rather than legislative requirements.
