Peter Sellis is joining X, the social platform now under the SpaceX roof, to lead Product.
He shared the news in a post on X on Monday afternoon, writing that he is “a huge believer” in SpaceX’s mission and that “it’s time to make shitposting multiplanetary.”
The move brings Sellis over from Microsoft. He was most recently a corporate vice president at Microsoft AI, overseeing design, engineering and growth after joining in January 2026, according to GeekWire. Leaving a rival AI shop less than a year later to run Product at X is a notable hire for the company.
In his post, Sellis called X “the best way to find out what’s happening in the world right now and talk about it.” He also gave credit to the existing team, saying “many have noticed the recent momentum.”
His stated goal is to “accelerate that momentum for our community, new users, and businesses globally” by making the product “beautiful and useful.”
Sellis brings a long consumer product resume with him. Before Microsoft, he was SVP of Product at Discord from 2022 to 2026, and before that VP of Product at Snap from 2015 to 2022. His X bio also lists Science Inc. among his past stops.
That background lines up with where X has been pushing lately. The platform recently rolled out a new AI ranking model for the timeline built around posts people actually spend time on, and it now sells Grok, Cursor and Premium as one plan.
X came under the same roof as SpaceX when the rocket maker acquired xAI in an all-stock deal on February 2, which is why Sellis framed the job around SpaceX’s goal “to extend human consciousness to the stars.”
Sellis also nodded to the platform’s age, writing “we are twenty years in.” That’s a reference to X turning 20 this year, twenty years after Twitter launched in March 2006. He added that X’s “next chapter will be our greatest.”
He closed by inviting ideas and feedback, joking that “I’m sure the replies will be measured and magnanimous.”
