Elon Musk Just Put Every American Kid on His SpaceX List

Elon Musk said early Monday that next year he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America, and he framed the move as only the start.

In a post at 12:52 a.m. PT, Musk wrote, “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.” The post stands on its own, with no attached filing, company release or how-to details.

The line sits in a wider thread from Sunday about putting company shares in public hands. After Anthropic said it would commit a portion of its shares to a public benefit fund, Musk replied that he recommends giving shares “directly to the public,” then later added, “This is what I will be doing.” Monday’s post is the concrete promise that followed.

SpaceX has been public since June under the Nasdaq ticker SPCX, after an IPO priced at $135 a share that closed as one of the biggest listings on record. Musk recently revisited a long-term valuation outlook around a roughly $2.2 trillion market value, and the company is due to post third-quarter results after the close on October 20. Under the IPO lockup schedule, Musk’s own shares stay locked until June 2027, which sits inside the “next year” window he just named.

This is also not the first time SpaceX stock and kids have crossed paths. In July, SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell said she was gifting about $325 million of SpaceX stock into children’s investment accounts. Musk’s Monday pledge is broader, and he has not said whether it would use the same kind of account structure.

Musk did not say how many kids qualify, how age or citizenship will be checked, who holds the shares for minors, which share class is involved, or what the gift is worth at the moment of transfer. He also did not say whether SpaceX itself is running a program or whether this is a personal distribution from his holdings, and he has not posted a signup, broker or tax outline.

For now, the only firm parts are the ones he typed: one of his SpaceX shares, every kid in America, next year, and more gifts after that. Will the first drop land before or after his June 2027 lockup ends?
