Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Add a Large Font Option to the UI

Elon Musk says Tesla will add a large font option to the touchscreen UI. That’s according to his reply on X Sunday morning, where he wrote, “We will add a large font option to the UI.” He didn’t say when it will arrive or what it will look like.
Musk was replying to Stephen Fleming, who posted Saturday night that he was showing a Tesla with Full Self-Driving to an elderly neighbor. He said she no longer drives at night because of poor eyesight and would buy one right away, except the text on the screen is too small for her, even with the display set to large print. Fleming asked Tesla to create an optional UI with a minimum 48-point type.
Tesla’s touchscreen already has a text size setting, at least according to the Model Y owner’s manual. Under Controls, then Display, it lists a “Text size” option to choose between Standard and Large. The manual doesn’t say how big Large is, and Musk didn’t say whether the new option would build on that setting or replace it. We haven’t checked what other models offer.
Tesla has changed text on its screens before. In 2024, an update enlarged the lettering on the Brake, Park and ABS warning lights after a font size recall. More recently, 2026.38 brought updated driving visuals to legacy Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, and Tesla’s new Roadster UI showed up in event videos this week.
Would a larger font option make the touchscreen easier for you, or for someone you know?
