Tesla’s Robotaxi will now make sure you don’t leave your bags behind. A new feature spotted Sunday automatically reopens the trunk at the end of a ride if the rider opened it before the trip began.
X user Aryan Butala shared the find September 27 with a 23-second demo video. The car pops the trunk open again on arrival, prompting the rider to collect anything stored there.
Forgotten luggage is a harder problem when there is no driver in the car. A human driver might notice a bag left in the back seat, but an autonomous vehicle has to solve it with software instead.
Replies to Butala’s video suggested going further, with an on-screen reminder or a Grok voice prompt to collect belongings. Butala liked the ideas, which hints Tesla could keep building on the feature.
The small touch lands as Tesla keeps growing its Robotaxi operation in Texas. A recent Tesla Robotaxi app decompile pointed to new payment and safety features, while Tesla has added vehicles including its 67th Cybercab in Austin as the Robotaxi fleet in Texas grows.
It is not clear yet whether the trunk behaviour is live across the Robotaxi fleet or limited to test cars. Watch the next Robotaxi app update, since Tesla tends to ship these small passenger-experience fixes without saying much.
