Tesla Robotaxi App 26.8.2 Decompile Reveals X Money Payments, Stop Now Failsafe

The Cybercab has no door handles, no steering wheel, and no driver to flag down. Tesla’s phone app has to handle all of those tasks, and its latest build adds more backup options.

Third-party tracker Tesla App Updates (iOS) decompiled Robotaxi app version 26.8.2 and posted the findings Thursday, as the Austin Cybercab fleet it supports keeps expanding. Stamped Monday, September 21, 2026, 7:23:38 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the build introduces a Stop Now pickup latch, a cloud door-unlock backup, native X Money payments, referral tracking, and cabin controls.

The notable changes focus on the final moments of a pickup. A SET_SUMMON_STOP_NOW_LATCH command gives riders a direct way to halt the vehicle, separate from cancelling the ride, while a MAX_VEHICLE_DISTANCE_FROM_PICKUP_FOR_STOP_NOW_M geofence restricts it to nearby vehicles. Once the car accepts the stop or starts a safe pull-over, the live banner alicorn_vehicle_is_pulling_over appears. Two new images, tips_cybercab_door_light.png and tips_cybercab_door.png, show riders how to manually open Cybercab doors, while the strings alicorn_open_door_internet_unlock_message and alicorn_tip_open_door_title describe an internet unlock option for Bluetooth or UWB handshake failures. The process verifies the ride session with Tesla’s servers and commands the vehicle over cellular, as Tesla courts buyers through its Cybercab fleet interest form.

Payments are another major addition to this build. X Money appears as a native payment type through connect_payment_type_xmoney, XMoneyPaymentMethod, isPaymentTypeXMoney, and payWithXMoney, functioning like a stored card within a versioned V2 wallet layer. Initial setup redirects to X, app or web, before returning a token to Tesla. Error handling blocks one-touch payments without a valid session, requiring re-authentication instead of an expired token. The tracker noted X Money went live for U.S. Premium and Premium+ users in late July 2026.

The update adds referral attribution and reward handling. ALICORN_LAST_CAMPAIGN_TOUCH records which link, ad, or QR code led to an install, while AlicornReferralConfettiOverlay displays full-screen confetti once a referred first ride completes and the bonus lands. A slider controls cabin display brightness, with no steering-wheel scroll wheel on a Cybercab, and a payment selection sheet offers Apple Pay, Google Pay, or another wallet when the default card fails, expanding the Robotaxi app’s payment options added earlier this year.

None of this comes from Tesla, just one tracker’s read of one app build. Strings can ship, stall, or disappear before release, but the direction is clear. The Robotaxi app is becoming the only key, dashboard, and wallet its riders will ever need.
