Vietjet has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Starlink to bring free, high-speed Wi-Fi to its passengers, formalizing a collaboration that was first teased earlier this week. The agreement was exchanged in New York on Wednesday, September 23, in the presence of Vietnam’s President To Lam and senior business leaders from both countries, Vietnam’s state news agency reported.
Under the deal, Vietjet and its group companies Galaxy Holdings and Galaxy Telecom will work with Starlink to connect the airline’s fleet. The initial phase will cover 120 aircraft, including 100 Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 jets plus 20 Airbus A330s, while Vietjet also plans to equip all future aircraft deliveries with the service.
“With Starlink, time in the air no longer has to mean time offline,” Vietjet Chairwoman Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said. “Vietjet passengers will be able to stay connected throughout their journey, whether working, staying entertained, or keeping in touch with family and friends. This reflects Vietjet’s longstanding commitment to innovation and our ambition to bring leading technologies closer to more people.”
SpaceX Senior Vice President of Global Business and Government Affairs Tim Hughes said the rollout “will build on the fast, reliable service already connecting homes and businesses on the ground in Vietnam.” “We’re thrilled to deliver a connectivity experience to Vietjet and its customers, making every journey better, smoother and infinitely more enjoyable,” he added.
The signing comes days after Starlink teased the partnership with a gate-to-gate Wi-Fi announcement for Vietjet flights. It also continues a fast-moving streak for Starlink in commercial aviation. Asiana Airlines now offers free Starlink Wi-Fi onboard, United has brought Starlink to its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, and Singapore Airlines plans to launch Starlink in 2027.
For Vietjet, the agreement makes free connectivity a headline feature across one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing fleets. The deal also marks the beginning of a long-term technology relationship between the airline and SpaceX. The next details to watch are the rollout schedule for the first 120 aircraft and whether the free Wi-Fi offer extends to every new jet joining the fleet.
