Singapore Airlines to Launch Starlink High-Speed Wi-Fi in 2027
Singapore Airlines has announced a deal with SpaceX to bring Starlink high-speed internet to its fleet. The upgrade will allow passengers to stream video, play online games, and download large files while in the air.
The airline plans to begin installing the satellite-based service in the first quarter of 2027. The rollout will target SIA’s Airbus A350-900 and A380 aircraft, with the entire project expected to be finished by the end of 2029.
Starlink uses a network of over 10,000 satellites in low Earth orbit to provide more reliable, lower-latency connectivity compared to traditional aviation internet. According to the airline, the system can support speeds up to 1 Gbps per antenna.
Passengers in all cabin classes will have access to the service. Members of the KrisFlyer loyalty programme and those flying in premium cabins will continue to receive unlimited free Wi-Fi on these upgraded planes.
Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, noted that seamless connectivity is now a standard expectation for travellers. He stated that the move to Starlink is intended to provide a smoother experience from take-off to landing.
Jason Fritch, Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales at SpaceX, said the partnership will redefine what is possible for both leisure and business travellers on long-haul flights.
