Tesla said Tuesday the Cybercab is the most efficient EV ever certified and built, and that the robotaxi’s drive units are rolling off the production line every 10 seconds.
The two-seat robotaxi, built at Giga Texas without a steering wheel or pedals, started carrying passengers in Austin in June 2026 as part of Tesla’s Robotaxi service. The fleet on the streets has kept growing since, with the 67th Cybercab spotted in Austin this week.
That 10-second cadence signals the shift from prototype and pilot builds to full factory rhythm. At that pace, a single line could turn out roughly 8,640 drive units in a full day, feeding a fleet that keeps adding cars.
The drive unit at the heart of the Cybercab is engineered for scale. Its motor uses no rare-earth metals, a design choice that cuts cost and supply-chain risk.
Tesla is also building the Cybercab with its unboxed manufacturing process, which shrinks the factory line roughly in half compared with a traditional setup.
The ramp-up lands as the Robotaxi service keeps widening in Austin. Tesla’s Robotaxi app now lets anyone in the area hail a Cybercab, a big step beyond the service’s early invite-only days.
The video attached to Tesla’s recruiting post shows the automated line in motion, and the message doubles as a hiring pitch with a link to open powertrain roles.
With a drive unit coming off the line every 10 seconds, Tesla’s Cybercab fleet in Austin looks poised to keep growing through the rest of the year.
