Tesla Cybercab
Tesla says Cybercab number 67 has joined its Robotaxi fleet in Austin, Texas, marking another step in the growth of the company’s driverless ride-hailing service (insert kiddos saying, “6-7”).
Monday’s announcement puts the Austin fleet at 67 Cybercabs and counting. Tesla said Monday the newest vehicle joins a service that has been expanding across the Texas capital. The post included an 8-second video showing a gold Cybercab with its butterfly doors raising up and down, like dancing.
Tesla’s Robotaxi now lists 420 vehicles on Texas’s official automated-vehicle registry, a milestone reached ahead of the Austin Cybercab launch. The registry covers every automated vehicle Tesla operates in the state.
Many of the vehicles come from Gigafactory Texas, where more than 150 Cybercabs were recently spotted in the outbound lot. Tesla builds the Cybercab using its Unboxed manufacturing process, which the company says halves the size of the factory line. The Cybercab is a purpose-built robotaxi designed without a steering wheel for fully driverless operation. Around the Texas factory, the gold-colored vehicles have become a familiar sight as production ramps up.
It is not clear how quickly Tesla plans to add more Cybercabs, or when the Austin service area might expand. The company has not said how many vehicles the fleet will reach by the end of the year. Pricing and wait times for Austin riders have also not been disclosed.
Riders in Austin can expect more Cybercabs on the road in the coming weeks. Tesla has not announced a target fleet size, but the steady additions point to continued growth.
