NVIDIA Names Tesla Megapack Among First DSX Ready Picks for AI Factory Power

NVIDIA launched DSX Ready on September 21 to qualify power and cooling products for AI factories, and Tesla Megapack is among the first qualified battery energy storage solutions.

Megapack is Tesla’s utility-scale battery system designed for grid-scale energy storage projects. DSX Ready is NVIDIA’s new qualification program that vets power and cooling products for use in AI factories, ensuring they meet the reliability and performance standards required for data centers running AI workloads.

“At launch, DSX Ready includes qualified BESS solutions Hitachi Energy, LG Energy Solution and Tesla,” NVIDIA said in its announcement. The program covers battery energy storage systems alongside power distribution and cooling products. Tesla’s inclusion puts Megapack on NVIDIA’s approved vendor list for AI factory builds.

The qualification matters because AI factories demand massive amounts of reliable power, and battery storage helps manage peak loads and provide backup. For Tesla Energy, the NVIDIA stamp of approval opens a new customer segment beyond utilities and independent power producers. It positions Tesla in the AI infrastructure supply chain, not just as an EV maker.

Tesla has been expanding its energy business, with the company beginning shipments of Megapacks using American-made LFP cells and doubling output at its Shanghai Megafactory. The company also set a US record with Sunrun, sending 580 MW from home batteries to California’s grid.

NVIDIA has not disclosed which specific AI factory projects will use Megapack, nor the volume of Tesla’s qualified supply. The company also has not detailed the technical criteria Megapack met for qualification.
