United Airlines is putting live NFL and college football broadcasts on Starlink-enabled seatback screens starting this week, under a new deal with DISH that runs through the Super Bowl in February.
The airline said fans can watch games from ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, FS1, ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, and Thursday Night Football on Prime Video in every cabin on more than 200 Starlink-equipped mainline jets, covering about 700 flights a day.
United wants Starlink on nearly 700 airplanes by early next year and still expects to finish the wider install before the end of 2027. Starlink Wi-Fi stays free for MileagePlus members.
The company also refreshed the scoreboard on how big the partnership already is: Starlink is active on more than 560 United mainline and United Express aircraft, with more than 31 million passengers flown across more than 464,000 Starlink-powered flights and 14.2 million devices connected.
That is a long way from the early mainline Starlink debut and the Super Bowl push for free cabin Wi-Fi. Live linear sports on the seatback is the new piece, not just faster browsing on a laptop.
United did not spell out exact channel packages per aircraft type, or whether international flights get the same football slate. The PR points to domestic service for this season’s games.
Elon Musk amplified the news on September 18 with a short line: “Watch your favorite games live on @Starlink.”
“Starlink opens a whole new world of features and benefits for our customers, regardless of where they sit on the plane,” said Andrew Nocella, United’s chief commercial officer. “Now football fans don’t have to schedule their flights around game day.”
Other carriers are racing the same cabin Wi-Fi story, including recent Korean Air free Starlink Wi-Fi coverage. United’s twist for September is simpler: kickoff on the seatback while you are still in the air.
