Tesla Robotaxi App Lets Anyone Hail a Cybercab in Austin

Tesla’s Robotaxi account said on September 10, 2026, that anyone can try Cybercab in Austin by downloading the Robotaxi app and hailing a ride, quoting a Cybercab experience clip from journalist Dave Lee as the public invitation goes wider.

The short post — “Anyone can try Cybercab in Austin” followed by “Just download the Robotaxi app & hail a ride” — frames the purpose-built two-seater as open through the same app Tesla has used for its unsupervised Robotaxi fleet in Texas. Austin has been the lead market for paid Cybercab rides since Tesla began commercial deployment in early September, after earlier Model Y Robotaxi service in the city.

Texas DMV records recently showed Tesla’s registered Cybercab count climbing to about 49 vehicles in the state, and the company has already begun showcasing the vehicle outside Texas, including a public display at ELEMENTS in Hong Kong. Opening app hailing to anyone in Austin is the clearest signal yet that Tesla wants volume rides, not just invite-only demos, while it expands the geofenced unsupervised service.

Cybercab has no conventional steering wheel or pedals, and NHTSA opened an audit query into how Tesla certified the vehicle against federal safety standards after commercial rides began. That regulatory track continues in parallel with the Austin rollout. Tesla previously moved Austin’s public Cybercab window earlier in the day after strong demand.

With the app now pitched as the front door for anyone in Austin, the next test is how quickly Tesla can add cars and keep rides reliable as more riders try the gold two-seaters for themselves.
