Tesla Cybertruck Powershare Now Extends Home Backup Past 3 Days

Tesla’s official Cybertruck account said on September 10, 2026, that Powershare can now work with Powerwall 3 to keep a home powered during an outage, extending backup by more than three days — energy the company equated to about nine additional Powerwalls.

“Powerwall 3 & I can now power your house together,” the account wrote, pairing the claim with a short demo video. In a follow-up reply minutes later, Cybertruck added that Powerwall 2+ compatibility is “coming later this year,” so today’s ship is scoped to Powerwall 3 first.

Tesla Cybertruck engineer Wes Morrill separately confirmed the timing on X, writing that the company is “shipping a new feature for Cybertruck to collaborate with powerwall 3 to extend the energy available to your home when the grid is not,” and calling it a first-of-its-kind integration between the truck and the home battery.

The milestone closes a long wait. Tesla had told owners the Powershare-with-Powerwall link was still in development and pushed the target to around mid-2026 while it worked through communication across Powerwall generations after an earlier Powershare delay. Standalone home backup through Powershare hardware and grid-support earning programs already rolled in parts of Texas and California; the missing piece was seamless teamwork with an existing Powerwall stack.

The timing also lands during a busy stretch for Tesla Energy. California’s Virtual Power Plant just showed about 69,000 Powerwalls dispatching more than 500 MW into the grid during a heatwave, underscoring how home batteries and vehicle packs are becoming interchangeable resilience tools. Owners with Powerwall 3 and a Powershare-ready Cybertruck should watch the Tesla app for the software path that turns the truck into multi-day backup when the grid drops.
