Tesla Robotaxi moved Cybercab public rides in Austin up to 2:00 p.m. Central Time on September 4, 2026, three hours earlier than the 5:00 p.m. CT window it posted overnight, citing popular demand after Thursday’s invite-only launch.
The official account quoted its own earlier line that public Cybercab rides would open at 5:00 p.m. CT and replaced that clock with the 2:00 p.m. CT start. Booking still runs through the Robotaxi app, where riders can request a Cybercab or a Model Y when both are available inside Austin’s geofence.
Paid Robotaxi service in Texas and Florida has mainly used unsupervised Model Y vehicles until this week. Texas records listed 45 Cybercabs on Tesla Robotaxi’s authorized roster ahead of the launch, beside hundreds of Model Y robotaxis, so drawing a purpose-built cab on any given request is still not guaranteed.
Tesla’s Cybercab Rider Guide spells out the cabin flow riders will hit once the earlier window opens: phone-detected automatic doors, Start Ride on the central touchscreen, a physical Stop button between the dome lights that ends the trip and connects to Robotaxi Support, and a mechanical door release for imminent danger. Minors under 13 are not allowed in Cybercab for now under the updated Robotaxi terms.
The company has not said how many of those 45 registered Cybercabs will sit in the Austin dispatch pool when 2:00 p.m. CT hits, or when other Robotaxi cities get the same public Cybercab choice.
