Tesla Wants Your Home Data to Train Optimus. It’s Buried in the Latest App Update.

Tesla is preparing a major batch of new features for its mobile app, including wireless custom wrap uploads, home data collection for Optimus, and emergency safety controls for Robotaxi. A recent code analysis of Tesla iOS app version 4.59.0 uncovered several upcoming capabilities hidden within the application code.

According to details shared by @Tesla_App_iOS, one of the biggest additions is the ability to upload custom vehicle wraps wirelessly. Instead of using a USB drive in the glovebox, owners can push PNG wrap designs directly from their phone. The app will feature a real-time 3D preview powered by the Godot game engine, allowing users to view their design on a virtual model before applying it. Custom wraps will also carry over to in-car Arcade games. This feature is part of the Tesla Summer Update rolling out.

The update also reveals groundwork for Tesla’s expanding robotics ecosystem. Code references indicate that Tesla is building a dedicated “Robot” Phone Key authentication stack using Bluetooth Low Energy, likely designed for both Cybercab and Optimus. Additionally, the app includes a home data collection consent screen for Optimus, allowing users to share video and spatial data to help train the humanoid robot in real-world living environments.

For Cybercab, the app introduces a “slide to emergency stop” gesture for passengers, along with a remote monitoring request feature that lets fleet operators view live camera feeds during complex situations.

Rounding out the updates are practical quality-of-life additions, including in-app screen brightness controls for the main vehicle display, an automated eligibility checker for Powerwall Virtual Power Plant programs, and dynamic GPS-based routing for Tesla Roadside Assistance.
