Tesla’s Berlin Factory Just Got a Major Production Boost. Thousands of New Jobs Are Coming.
Tesla is ramping things up hard at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, with a string of production boosts and new jobs on the way.
Plant manager André Thierig says the factory will hit 7,500 vehicles a week starting this October, and Tesla is adding 1,000 new employees to the assembly lines to make that happen.
That’s on top of an earlier bump already in motion. Weekly production is set to climb from 5,000 to 6,200 cars starting in July, a jump that’s already brought 1,000 new jobs to the area.
Tesla isn’t just scaling up car assembly either. The plant’s battery cell factory is gearing up to produce 18 GWh worth of 4680 cells starting in 2027, which should add another 1,500 jobs on top of everything else.
It’s a sign Tesla is still pushing hard in Germany even as the broader European auto market deals with some shaky conditions. Giga Berlin opened back in early 2022 and has mostly focused on building the Model Y since then, first hitting the 5,000-cars-a-week mark in March 2023. These new targets show Tesla isn’t slowing down, it’s leaning further into the plant’s growing capacity.
Between the assembly line boost and the battery expansion, Tesla’s clearly trying to chip away at its order backlog and get its European supply chain running smoother heading into the rest of the year.
