Tesla Just Dominated Europe in May With Triple-Digit Growth Across Multiple Countries
Tesla experienced a massive surge in new vehicle registrations across Europe in May 2026, bouncing back sharply with triple-digit growth in multiple key markets.
France led the charge by recording its best-ever month of May with 5,446 new Tesla registrations. That figure represents a staggering 655% increase compared to the same period last year, pushing Tesla’s year-to-date total in the country past the 20,000 mark. The Model Y accounted for 71% of those French deliveries, while the Model 3 made up the remaining 29%.
The upward trend extended well beyond France, with several other European nations posting major year-over-year gains:
-
Portugal saw registrations skyrocket by 1,402%, with 1,463 vehicles delivered to capture a 5.8% overall market share.
-
Denmark registrations jumped 136% to 1,752 units, where the Model Y secured the spot as the top-selling vehicle across the entire automotive market.
-
Spain recorded a 113% increase, with local deliveries more than doubling to 1,690 vehicles.
-
Sweden and Norway also maintained steady growth, posting gains of 71% and 27% respectively. Norway continued its dominant electric vehicle adoption, reaching a 97.8% total EV market penetration with Tesla remaining the country’s top brand.
Industry analysts attribute the sudden regional rebound to a combination of high fuel prices, favorable local subsidies, and strong consumer demand for the refreshed Model Y. The May sales spike builds directly on a 46.5% regional increase observed in April, though high demand has reportedly pushed expected delivery windows out to September in several European countries.
