Tesla’s New Outlet Adapter Turns Your Model Y L Into a Giant Power Bank
Tesla is bringing vehicle-to-load charging to the stretched out Model Y L in Australia and New Zealand with a new accessory called the Tesla Outlet Adapter. The adapter plugs directly into the car’s charge port and lets you power devices like space heaters, e-bikes and power tools straight from the vehicle’s battery. It’s priced at $145 AUD and is listed as coming soon on the Tesla Shop.

Specs are pretty straightforward: 230V, 15A and a maximum output of 3.5kW, which is enough to run most common appliances and tools.
One thing to note is that the adapter is currently only compatible with the newer Model Y L, and not the Model Y Long Range AWD. Tesla also specifies that any damage caused by third party bidirectional adaptors or chargers is not covered under the vehicle warranty, so this needs to be the official Tesla accessory to stay protected.
Now the big question still remains–when the heck will Tesla launch the Model Y L in North America? I still think Tesla needs to make an actual bigger SUV or minivan that can fit seven seats.
