Tesla’s FSD 14 Is Coming to Hardware 3 in June — Here’s What Owners Need to Know

Tesla has provided a significant update for owners of vehicles equipped with Hardware 3 (HW3) as the company moves toward its goal of autonomous driving. During a recent update, the company confirmed that FSD v14 is expected to arrive for HW3 vehicles by the end of June, according to Elon Musk on the company’s Q1 earnings call taking place right now.

This upcoming release will likely be a version of v14 Lite. This software branch is designed to include all the major features found in the standard v14.x releases but optimized for the processing power of the older hardware.

While this brings new features to millions of existing cars, Tesla clarified that HW3 does not have the necessary capability to achieve true unsupervised Full Self-Driving. This distinction means that while the cars will become more capable, a human driver must still remain attentive at all times.

To bridge the gap for customers who purchased the FSD package on HW3 and want to reach the unsupervised level, Tesla is introducing two specific options. The company plans to offer a hardware upgrade path that includes replacing the Autopilot computer and cameras with the newer AI4 hardware.

Additionally, Tesla will offer discounted trade-in deals for those looking to move into a newer vehicle that natively supports the latest AI4 suite. This move addresses long-standing questions from the Tesla community about whether older hardware would eventually hit a ceiling in its self-driving evolution.

…developing, refresh for updates
