Tesla’s German-Made Model Y Performance Lands in Australia

Tesla’s global supply chain shuffle is paying dividends for Australian buyers just in time for the holidays. According to The Driven, the first German-made Tesla Model Y Performance vehicles are now being delivered in Australia, marking the debut of the new model sourced directly from Tesla’s Giga Berlin factory.

Customers on the Tesla Owners Australia Facebook group have begun sharing delivery confirmations, with several reporting pickup dates scheduled for December 24. One excited owner summed it up perfectly, calling the early delivery “a great Xmas present.” The rollout follows Tesla’s official unveiling of its refreshed and fastest-ever Model Y at the Everything Electric show in Melbourne last month.

This particular Model Y is the long-awaited Performance variant, which Tesla launched locally in September after quietly removing the previous-generation Model Y Performance from its configurator earlier this year. Priced at $89,400 AUD before on-road costs, the new Performance model sits more than $20,000 above the dual-motor Long Range version, but it brings meaningful upgrades to justify the premium.

Range has improved significantly, with the new Model Y Performance rated at 580 km WLTP, up from 514 km on the outgoing model. Performance has also been sharpened, thanks to a 343 kW dual-motor setup that drops the 0–100 km/h sprint to just 3.5 seconds. Visually, the SUV gets a sportier front bumper, a carbon fiber rear lip spoiler, and new 21-inch wheels replacing the older Uberturbines.

Inside, buyers will find added carbon fiber trim, upgraded sport seats with heating and ventilation, and adaptive suspension with dedicated drive modes — features typically reserved for Tesla’s top-tier models.

The arrival of Model Y Performance shipments from Giga Berlin should also help Tesla maintain momentum in Australia, where the Model Y has already topped EV sales charts for 2025 as of October. With increased availability and a refreshed lineup — alongside the recently launched refreshed Model 3 Long Range with a whopping 750 km of WLTP-rated driving range — Tesla is clearly doubling down on the region.

For Australian buyers wanting performance without giving up practicality, these first Berlin-built deliveries couldn’t have come at a better time.
