Tesla continues to dominate Australia’s electric vehicle (EV) market in 2025, with the Model Y leading as the country’s best-selling EV so far this year. According to sales data compiled by The Driven, Tesla has sold a total of 23,569 vehicles year-to-date, far ahead of BYD in second place with 17,019 units.
The Model Y alone accounts for 17,972 of those sales, putting it at the top of Australia’s EV charts by a wide margin. BYD’s Sealion 7 ranks second with 8,483 units, followed by the Tesla Model 3 in third at 5,597. Rounding out the top five are the Kia EV5 (3,901) and Geely EX5 (3,015).
These figures reaffirm Tesla’s strong market presence in Australia, where the company has rapidly expanded its reach over the past year. In September, the Model Y was not only the country’s top-selling EV, but also Australia’s best-selling passenger vehicle overall — a major milestone for an all-electric model.
According to The Driven, total EV sales in Australia have reached 76,254 units year-to-date. While Tesla leads with nearly a third of that total, BYD and Kia have also shown strong momentum. However, no brand comes close to matching Tesla’s consistent month-over-month dominance.
Tesla’s focus on Australia has only intensified in recent months. The company recently launched Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscriptions across Australia and New Zealand, allowing owners to experience the latest driver-assistance technology through monthly plans. That rollout followed Tesla’s broader expansion of FSD (Supervised) availability in both countries back in September.
As deliveries of the refreshed 2026 Model Y begin ramping up globally, Tesla’s lead in markets like Australia shows little sign of slowing. With growing local infrastructure support and strong consumer demand, the Model Y remains the benchmark for EV adoption down under.
