Tesla’s updated 2026 Model Y has officially earned a fresh 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, with the organization publishing some of the strongest scores ever recorded for the all-electric SUV. The news was shared by the official Tesla Europe & Middle East account (@teslaeurope) on X, noting that the redesigned Model Y not only maintains its predecessor’s reputation but surpasses it in some aspects under Euro NCAP’s stricter 2025–2026 testing protocols.

According to Euro NCAP, the new Model Y achieved a 91% score for Adult Occupant Protection, 93% for Child Occupant Protection, 86% for Vulnerable Road User Safety, and 92% for Safety Assist — a standout set of results that edge past the previous generation’s already-excellent performance. Before this year’s facelifted model rolled out, the previous iteration also held a rock-solid 5-star Euro NCAP rating, but the new version goes even further thanks to improved hardware and software.

“Superior scores (vs legacy Model Y) in Vulnerable Road Users (pedestrians, cyclists) & Child Occupant Protection,” Tesla Europe highlighted, adding that the vehicle now includes added distraction and microsleep detection, along with a unique in-cabin radar system capable of directly detecting child presence and alerting if a child is accidentally left in the rear seat.

Tesla also says the new Model Y showcases better Safety Assist performance compared to the updated Model 3 tested earlier this year — despite using the exact same hardware — thanks to software improvements.

The strong safety results come as Tesla continues a broader refresh across its lineup. In addition to the new 2026 Model Y, the company recently launched updated versions of the Model S and Model X in Europe, along with a redesigned Model Y Performance. Tesla first began delivering the new Model Y from its U.S. and German Gigafactories back in March, ramping up availability throughout 2025. Earlier this summer, the new Model Y also received the U.S.-based IIHS’s highest possible rating, the Top Safety Pick+ award.

With some of the highest marks in Euro NCAP’s latest test cycle and meaningful gains over the outgoing model, Tesla’s best-selling SUV looks poised to remain one of the safest vehicles on the road — electric or otherwise.
