Tesla Adds Tron: Ares Mode to Turn Your Car into a Light Cycle

Tesla has introduced a new “Tron: Ares” mode to its in-car Toybox, giving owners a chance to transform their vehicles’ on-screen visualization into a Light Cycle straight out of the newly released Tron: Ares movie. The update began rolling out on Friday to coincide with the film’s October 10 premiere.

Tesla announced the feature on X, saying, “The grid has expanded to your Tesla — Tron: Ares update rolling out now.” Once installed, drivers can activate the feature by navigating to Toybox > Tron in the car’s infotainment system. When enabled, the vehicle avatar on the central display changes into a glowing Light Cycle, complete with Tron-inspired visuals. For vehicles equipped with RGB ambient lighting, the immersive lighting theme also extends to the cabin environment.

This marks Tesla’s latest addition to Toybox — the company’s library of playful, optional in-car features that have included everything from light shows to arcade games. The Tron: Ares update follows a string of recent software rollouts, including one that adds 3D buildings and cityscapes to the navigation system for a more realistic driving experience. Tesla also recently began pushing its major Full Self-Driving (Supervised) version 14.1 update (software version 2025.32.8.5), which delivers improved performance and more human-like driving behavior.

The timing of the Tron-themed update comes shortly after Tesla, xAI, and X collaborated with Walt Disney to power a real-world AI experience at the Tron: Ares premiere on October 6. The partnership leveraged xAI’s conversational models, Tesla’s Optimus robot, and X’s real-time platform features to enhance the film’s immersive debut.

For now, Tron: Ares mode appears to be a purely cosmetic feature, but it’s another sign of Tesla’s growing interest in blending entertainment, brand partnerships, and software-driven personalization.
