Tesla Supercharger Autoparking Coming in Future Updates, Says Musk

Automatic parking at Tesla Superchargers could soon become a reliable, dedicated feature, according to CEO Elon Musk.

Spaceflight photographer and longtime Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD) user John Kraus recently took to X to ask Musk: “Will automatic parking at Superchargers soon become a dedicated feature? It only works maybe 1/5 of the time for me.”

Musk replied, “Yeah, it will work essentially perfectly with future software updates.”

Kraus responded by praising Tesla’s progress over the years, noting that FSD “does 99% of my driving right now.” All of this came after Tesla shared a new video of FSD (Supervised) making a 7-hour, 362-mile trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles without the person in the driver’s seat ever needing to intervene or even touch the steering wheel.

While Musk didn’t provide a release date, the capability would presumably build on Tesla’s existing Autopark feature, which can already autonomously guide a vehicle into open public parking spots. Tesla debuted a new, vision-only Autopark system last year, eliminating ultrasonic sensors in favour of a camera-based approach that the company says delivers smoother and more reliable parking maneuvers.

A dedicated “Supercharger Autoparking” mode would likely take things a step further, allowing your Tesla to autonomously locate and park at an available charging stall once you’ve navigated to a Supercharger site. This could help streamline charging sessions, especially at busy locations or in tight parking layouts.

The feature would be yet another incremental step toward Tesla’s broader vision of full autonomy, where your vehicle can handle not just the drive, but also every detail in between — from route planning to charging stops. As Musk suggested, the company’s software-first approach means these capabilities can be significantly improved over time without any hardware upgrades.

For now, Tesla owners will have to wait for future software updates to see Supercharger Autoparking become the “essentially perfect” experience Musk promised.
